What scrolling speed should you use for a teleprompter?
Use the pace that lets you speak a short rehearsal passage comfortably without chasing the words. There is no universal speed: text size, line spacing, reading width and your delivery all change how a scrolling pace feels.
Set the layout before the pace
Choose a readable font size from your actual recording position, then narrow the column enough to keep your eyes near the lens. Adjust line spacing so you can track the next line without crowding.
Changing font size or width changes the number of lines in a passage. Recheck speed whenever you make a substantial layout change.
Understand the speed display
Teleprompter Lite measures scrolling in pixels per second. Its 1× display means 20 px/s; the slower and faster transport controls adjust it in 5 px/s steps, between 5 and 200 px/s.
The multiplier is not a words-per-minute measurement. The same pixel speed can feel faster with smaller text or longer lines, so use a rehearsal rather than converting it into a speaking target.
Rehearse one representative passage
Choose a paragraph that includes the kind of pauses, names and explanations you expect in the full script. Start at a manageable pace and adjust until you can finish the thought without rushing.
- Set your layout and return to the start of the passage.
- Play and speak aloud from your recording position.
- If the text leaves before you finish, reduce speed. If you keep waiting for the next line, increase it.
- Repeat after a layout change, using the same passage for comparison.
Make room for pauses
A fixed-speed reader keeps moving during a pause. Use the play/pause control for a longer break, or shorten the passage into clear cues you can navigate between.
The optional countdown gives you a moment before playback starts. It is a starting aid rather than a pause between every paragraph. The reading guide and focus mode can help you keep your place without changing speed.
Adjust during a take
Use the slower and faster buttons when you need a small change. With shortcuts enabled and no editing field or dialog active, + and − adjust speed in 5 px/s steps.
On desktop, ordinary wheel input over the reader scrolls the script whether playing or paused. Try these controls in rehearsal so an adjustment does not surprise you during a recording.
